1. Auditory Musings

I think my love of music stems from early childhood.

Some children have stuffed toys or blankets that they drag under the covers at night to drool on and suffocate. I had a fisher price tape player. The one with the microphone attached on the side. It was always there for me. It brought me Sharon, Lois and Bram who lulled me to sleep with “skinnamarkink”, “Chugga Chugga”, and “Peanut Butter and Jelly.” I would literally hug this thing like a teddy bear.

Of course I had other tapes, but my SL&B collection usually won out over the others. I will probably never know what got me hooked on music at such a young age (after all, it wasn’t like I didn’t have any furry friends to share my bed with) but I’m glad I fell in love with that hunk of kid-friendly plastic.

Music still comforts me in the same way; it lulls me to sleep, calms me down, and keeps me company. My current “music to look into” list is as follows:

    • Timber Timbre
    • Caribou (Swim)
    • Molly Rankin (She EP)
    • Junior Boys
    • Brasstronaut (Vancouver locals!)
    • Elliott Brood
    • The Boxer Rebellion
    • The Avett Brothers
    • Oakley Hall

What are you listening to these days? I would love to hear some suggestions for classics … and new stuff! Please reply or write to my ask box!
