1. and they thought Juno was controversial

I just finished reading Towelhead, by Alicia Erian. I know, I know.. Juno wasn’t a book, but Alan Ball (the guy behind American Beauty and Six Feet Under) has made Towelhead into a movie (check out the trailer here). It’s supposed to come out in August, but I live in Canada, and it doesn’t look like it’ll be in theatres here, which is unfortunate because I have a good feeling about this movie. I think it has a lot to say to girls who are misguided and over-sexualized by Miley Cyrus and Avril Lavigne. Even though the main character Jasira has so many flaws and is possibly more naive than Miley and Avril combined, she snaps out of it - finds people who will love her. She learns to say what she feels is good and true even if that means pissing her dad off.

I wonder if they’ll include all of the ‘racy’ stuff from the book in the film. If they don’t I think it may suffer. The book only works because it goes into explicit details about what Jasira experiences.

I mean, I’m no literary genious. I’m just sayin’: I know what I like, and I like the look of this movie, but as one Defamer commenter points out, (why I read this, I’m not sure…) perhaps Jasira’s character should have been played by Miley… she’d pass for an Arab-American…right? She’s plays an innocent pop star well enough.
