1. Soia & Kyo is having a winter sale and I’m torn on which parka to get. I’m sold on the camel colour, but should I go short or long? I love the belt/fit of the shorter one, but the longer one could potentially be warmer. Also, is anyone familiar with the sizing of this brand? Do their coats fit true to size?I’d love your help! Reply to the post with “A” or “B” or let me know what you think on twitter (@katietower).
UPDATE: Based on my walk to work this morning in -13 degree temps, I chose option B. As much as I want to stay fashion forward, staying warm takes priority.

  2. Dark Denim Woes

I got a new pair of very dark Guess jeans (best fit for my body - take note ladies with some hip and thigh up in hurr). I want them to stay dark for as long as possible. I have had two pair of Guess jeans in the last two years that last for about a year each. They are the desired colour for about three months and then just loose their ability to be dressed up. With this new pair I want to try a pre-wash soak of salt. I have read in some places and heard from a friend that this is a good way to reduce the amount of fading to dark denim.

I will, of course, be washing them inside out, in cold water, and hanging to dry. But should I be putting the salt in the washing machine, or just soak them in a bucket before putting them through the cycle? For how long? How much salt? One forum said 3tbsp, which seems like a lot.

I need to get this pair hemmed before I wear them and want to wash them first. Has anyone out there tried the salt soak with their dark denim? If so, what was your method?

  3. As part of Career Camp, a series of talks at Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn, New York, that commenced this week, Liz Danzico discussed how to ask good questions in the face of career changes—whether those changes are in the pursuit of learning within your own company or a more significant career change. She advised the audience to ask themselves, “Who do you seek out when you think about change?” and “Who inspires you?” when considering where or how to move forward.

To help frame the evening, she sought out the advice of digital designers and designer conspirers far and wide, to ask them to respond to the following:

So you’re thinking about becoming a designer? If I could tell you only one thing about going into the field, my advice would be ___________ .

  4. I need budget design inspiration.

    jgh:

I’d like to make my room look like a real Grown Up lives here (first thing first: get a bed frame so I’m not just on a mattress on the goddamn floor) but everything on Apartment Therapy is like, 6,000 dollars or some such. I mean, I love Mid Century Modern just as much as the next girl, but that Eames stuff gets pricy.

How do I break out of Ikea hell?

There’s something here. People need solutions for their homes (read: TINY ASS APARTMENTS) that aren’t, as jgh points out, 6,000 dollars. And while AT is good for visual inspiration, how does someone without an extensive budget re-create those looks?

Long story short. I. don’t. know. More to come on this, me thinks.

  5. The facebook “events” page should look like a calendar, not a stupid list. Also, events and birthdays should be TOGETHER and not secluded at the very bottom of the page in a run-on list with tiny type.

    Somone do something about this.
