1. Design is not just something you do on a piece of paper. Design is how you think, how you see, how you act, what you buy, what you own, what you surround yourself with; what you listen to what you don’t listen to, what you watch, what you don’t watch. So design, for me, is a kind of way of life and perhaps a substitute for any other kind of religion.

I’m a huge fan of the concepts that everynone uses video to portray. Spot on. Also, their name! It’s one of those things I wish I had come up with. Check out three of my favorite pieces below:

  3. Camera Query

There are only a few days before I head to Thailand (eek!) and I’m having a pretty intense internal debate on how many/which camera(s) to bring along in order to capture my adventures. I’m only there for a week, but we’re doing some traveling around, the usual sightseeing, and lots of beach time.

On Sunday I went to Best Buy and impulse-bought a Bloggie because my DSLR doesn’t have video capabilities and, along with taking photos, I’d love to be able to take some video. Here’s the thing: the Bloggie kind of sucks. I have no real facts with which to back this judgement up, I’ll just say I didn’t like its interface and I found when I replayed the video it was kind of choppy. While I was at the store, I seriously considered getting two other rigs:

    1. A Flip Ultra HD (same price as the Bloggie @ $199)
    2. This crazy mofo that costs almost four bills (aka The Lumix TS3 @ $379ish)

So, here is the big question:

What do I do? I’m definitely returning the Bloggie, but should I get the Flip Ultra? Does anyone out there know if the Lumix is worth the money? I also want to take one or both of my still cameras. I have a Canon Rebel XT with two lenses that’s very reliable and a 35mm Minolta that takes great photos, but it’s a tad heavy and I’d have to have lots of film on hand.

Do I take both cameras? Just the digital? I don’t want to risk not getting good photos, but I also want to challenge myself a little to make some images that are actually interesting and not the typical travel photos. In terms of video, In the end I’d be looking to make something like this. Would anyone out there consider just getting the Lumix, taking it, and leaving the other two SLRs behind?

    Update:

Thanks for sending feedback my way! Somehow the people who manage Flip’s twitter page found my query and gave their (slightly bias) two cents:

I was sort of leaning toward getting the Flip anyhow, so I went and did that yesterday. I also took Jacob’s recommendation and got a GorillaPod - one that will hold both the flip and my DSLR, as I have decided to leave my precious Minolta at home.

    Camera Query: Solved!

  4. Print Craft by Visual Inclination

This is (for a lack of a better term) design porn. More often than not, I’m more interested in seeing how something came together than I am in seeing the final product.

Thanks again to Sam for the tip!

  8. Jon Bryant - The Hallelujah

Okay, so I’m just gonna go on for a quick sec about how many talented people there are in the world. There’s a lot. In my life especially, there seems to be a surplus of amazing, talented people. Jon and I aren’t super close friends anymore, but he’s certainly someone who can always get me smiling and who’s always smiling himself (of course he is; he’s got a big exciting life ahead of him). Anyway, his music is very spiritual (but not in the way that’s off-putting), he has a wonderful voice and he’s not hard to look at, either. So give this video a look then go on over to iTunes and get his album. He’s a designer, too and did all the artwork himself. I meant it when I said talented.

Alicia Keys - Unthinkable (I’m Ready) produced by Drake

The best thing about Alicia’s music is that it’s timeless. All her songs remain close to my heart for years rather than a moment.

This is a lovely video. Not what I envisioned but great way to fuse her acting and vocals. The concept really hits home considering I’m biracial.

I don’t feel like she takes a stand here. I wanted to see her walk out the door at the end and that is only alluded to. Not completely knocking it though, as it is a great concept. The idea is something I’ve definitely thought about given my background as well… not that I’m dating a whole lot (read: at all). It’s completely relatable.

This just makes me so happy. It’s also so great to do something for no real reason other than for a good laugh.
